Thoughts on Seeing the Moon at Mid-Autumn

September 27, 2015

The bright moon hangs in the sky; seeing the moon, one awakens to emptiness.

Empty of all things, yet able to hold all things.

A heart as open as a valley, rivers and seas flow into it.

The highest good is like water, which embraces filth and mire.

Meeting the muddy, it grows turbid; keeping still, it grows clear.

When a person awakens to emptiness, the heart becomes boundless.

Seeming evil, seeming good; seeming mortal, seeming immortal.

Seeming clear, seeming turbid; seeming honored, seeming disgraced.

Seeming male, seeming female; seeming black, seeming white.

Those who are good, I treat as good; those who are not good, I also treat as good.

Those who are trustworthy, I trust; those who are not trustworthy, I also trust.

As if without a mind, as if without even no-mind.

Taking the heart as the heart, yet not clinging to my own heart.

Always walking the great way, acting on behalf of heaven.
